K2 Main Battle Tank
The K2 main battle tank (MBT) is a first-class tank developed with Korea’s original technology to suit future ground combat environments.
The K2 tank has superior maneuverability, firepower, and survivability by using advanced technologies such as its 120 mm smoothbore gun, automatic target detection and tracking system, adjustable hydropneumatic suspension unit (HSU), active protection system (APS)(Soft-Kill), identification friend or foe (IFF) system, and inter-vehicular data communications and battlefield management system (BMS) linked to the C4I system.
Korea has achieved technical prowess and combat capability on a par with advanced countries by independently developing and integrating its main battle tank into its forces, which represents the best technical and combat capabilities with respect to ground weapons systems.
KAPS (Korean Active Protection System) is a hard-kill system that instantly destroys an enemy’s incoming anti-tank missile or rocket projectile targeted at a K-2 tank by counter-firing at it using its detection and tracking data, and can significantly improve the survivability of K-2 MBT.
