A rail gun is a new concept electric gun that shoots ballistic bodies using electric energy. While an existing gun that uses chemical energy has a limitation in that the muzzle velocity is saturated at about 2,000 m/s even when the input energy is increased, a rail gun can accelerate a projectile to a muzzle velocity of 2,000 m/s or higher. Thanks to such high velocity, the flight duration of a projectile can be shortened and the range can be extended. As no propellant or explosive material is used, it has various advantages such as easy logistics support and so on.
