Railguns are new-concept guns using electric energy, resulting in higher exit velocity compared to conventional guns using propellants.

Due to the increased exit velocity, Railguns feature reduced flight-time of projectiles and extended effective-ranges. Railguns also possess advantages in logistics support as explosives (such as propellants) are not required.

Core technologies of railguns including technologies to generate high-current pulse and to maintain durability (rail durability) are currently under development.
